Francesco Bagnaia has hinted at a potential move to Aprilia for the upcoming season. After uncertainties arose about his future with Ducati, Bagnaia’s agent began exploring other options, eventually leading to negotiations with Yamaha. Despite a solid offer from Yamaha, Bagnaia hesitated due to concerns about the reliability of the 2026 M1 and learning that Yamaha had already signed Jorge Martin, with whom he would share the box.

In this situation, Aprilia stepped in, offering Bagnaia the opportunity to ride the bike being vacated by Martin at the end of the season. While financially inferior to Yamaha’s offer, Aprilia’s deal included a four-year contract that could be reviewed by both parties in 2028, providing Bagnaia with greater stability and security, which he values.

The potential move to Aprilia also raises questions about Bagnaia’s trusted technician, Cristian Gabarrini. Many MotoGP riders have taken their engineers with them when changing teams, and Gabarrini has been Bagnaia’s only race engineer since 2019. The decision for Gabarrini to accompany Bagnaia to Aprilia or stay at Ducati alongside the rising star, Pedro Acosta, remains up in the air.

At 40 years old, Gabarrini faces a tough call, torn between loyalty to Bagnaia and the challenge of working with Acosta at Ducati. While sources suggest a continuation with Ducati is likely, Acosta sees the opportunity to work with Gabarrini as a chance to learn from the engineer who won two titles with Stoner. Emotionally, Gabarrini’s son, Matteo, adds another layer to the decision as he is part of the VR46 Riders Academy, possibly influencing Gabarrini’s choice. The outcome of this dilemma remains to be seen.
