Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has provided an update on Francis Tjia, who underwent successful surgery after a terrifying crash during the season-opening race in Shanghai. The incident occurred when Naquib Azlan, starting from pole position, experienced a slow start, triggering a series of collisions involving multiple cars. Tjia, after colliding with Azlan’s car, spun off the track and crashed into the wall. Fortunately, Tjia was conscious and talking after receiving initial medical checks at the circuit’s medical center. The series later confirmed that he had undergone minor surgery at Huashan Hospital. Azlan, who emerged from the crash unharmed, expressed relief that both he and Tjia were safe. Following the incident, the race was abandoned, and 50% championship points were awarded based on the Official Qualifying classification. The Championship will resume with Round 2 as scheduled.
