Corey Day of Hendrick Motorsports secured his first career win at Talladega Superspeedway during Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race, which marked his 22nd career start. The race was not without drama. A new crew member, Jason Kelce, joined the No. 17 team and assisted the fueler during the event. The final lap witnessed a crash when Sam Mayer, who was leading the race, spun down the backstretch while trying to block another racer from behind. This incident led to several other cars crashing in Turns 3 and 4, prompting NASCAR to end the race under a yellow flag.

When the race concluded, Corey Day emerged as the winner, with Brent Crews coming in second, followed by Sheldon Creed, Sammy Smith, and Jeremy Clements in the top five positions. The rest of the top ten included Dean Thompson, Jesse Love, Brandon Jones, Parker Retzlaff, and Austin Green. Creed also managed to secure the $100,000 Dash4Cash bonus for the second week in a row.

In the initial stages of the race, Patrick Staropoli crashed into the outside wall on the backstretch on the first lap, collecting David Starr and Tyler Ankrum. Surprisingly, this was the only major crash until the final moments of the race. Stage 1 was intense, with aggressive racing in a three-wide manner. Ultimately, Kvapil won Stage 1 in a close finish, followed by Smith, Creed, Caruth, and other racers.

During Stage 2, the pace slowed down a bit, and the field transitioned into a single-file formation. Allgaier managed to pass his teammate Kvapil on the final lap to win Stage 2, with Creed, Thompson, Retzlaff, and others also performing well. Stage 3 saw some penalties for top runners after pit stops, resulting in a shift in the race’s dynamics. Taylor Gray took the lead, and there were some notable incidents during pit stops.

As the race progressed, significant movements within the pack led to a reshuffling of the top contenders. With late drama unfolding in the final moments, Mayer spun sideways but managed to stay in contention. Love and other drivers also faced challenges, including a controversial move from Mayer that triggered a series of crashes. In the end, Day emerged victorious despite the chaotic finish.
