Alpine Formula 1 driver, Franco Colapinto, recently made headlines for ignoring team orders at the United States Grand Prix. Despite pitting early on lap 13 in Austin, Colapinto faced pressure from Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto in the final 10 laps as the Brazilian driver tried to secure a higher position. Colapinto found himself stuck behind his teammate, Pierre Gasly, with a 0.7-second-per-lap margin, when Alpine instructed him to hold his position on lap 54. Colapinto’s response, “Wait, what? Maintain position? But he’s slow!” led to him overtaking Gasly and finishing 17th ahead of Bortoleto.
Alpine has since addressed the situation internally, emphasizing the importance of following team instructions at all times. Colapinto’s post-race commentary highlighted the challenges he faced during the race and the need for the team to analyze and improve their performance. Despite finishing outside the top 15 in the last four races, Colapinto remains focused on working towards a stronger future. The team continues to assess their struggles and aims to enhance their performance in the upcoming races.
