Ministries in the Red and White Cabinet recently convened at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to address the plight of PT Sritex employees who had been laid off. The primary focus of the meeting was a directive from Prabowo urging ministers to find solutions for the affected workers. Key attendees included Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and PT Sritex Curator Nurma Sadikin.
During the meeting, Prasetyo underscored the president’s concern for the workers and stressed the urgency of resolving the challenges faced by PT Sritex following its declaration of bankruptcy in October 2024. The objective is to re-employ approximately 8,000 employees within the textile sector through a new working arrangement. Minister Yassierli praised the efforts of the curator in potentially rehiring former Sritex employees within the next two weeks.
Furthermore, Prabowo’s commitment to providing support and guidance is anticipated to alleviate the situation for PT Sritex employees impacted by the layoffs. The Ministry of Manpower is actively safeguarding the rights of PT Sritex Group workers by ensuring they receive appropriate compensation and other entitlements. The PT Sritex Curator Team is currently in the process of selecting investors to oversee Sritex’s assets under a new framework, which is intended to facilitate the re-employment of the displaced workers. This initiative aims to bring stability for the affected employees and offer a resolution to their current predicament.
